2008 Best of Therapist Winner

Would you like a burger and fries with that massage?

I bet you would and the super size too!!!  Let’s be real here for a moment.  You come into our office and complain of back pain, fatigue, and you are feeling like you need a pick-me-up.  Sound familiar?  We get this complaint daily.  We put you on the table and knead you from limb to limb until you feel like you are experiencing sheer bliss.  You say “Oh, I feel so much better”.  “Now I can work late tonight without triggering my usual evening headache.”  I know you are all with me here folks.  You leave the office and proceed to go home and eat the easiest thing you can grab or stop at the local grease pit to get your dinner.  And hey, I see you going for the chocolate shake for dessert.  HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!!!

I can eat burgers with the best of them and during a weak moment I will succumb to the smell of the local burger joint across the street.  But how in #X@! can you expect to feel better and achieve tissue repair if you fill your body with junk?  Now remember, I just said I will eat junk food on occasion but not when I already feel like my body needs an over haul from my day.  If you feel like junk why would you want to fill your body with more junk?  Comprendo?

Massage is only one part of the equation along with diet and exercise.  If your body is feeling sore or you are healing from a soft tissue injury your body needs the right tools in order to complete the healing process.  Massage will expedite the healing process but you will achieve optimum healing results much quicker dining on the proper foods.

Cindi Fox Kemp, the owner of the Acupuncture and Wellness Center in Cary says, “What people eat has everything to do with the way they function. If it grows eat it and as far as ingredients, if you can’t pronounce it, it probably is not in your best dietary interest.” Cindi also advises her patients by the 80/20 rule.  She reminds us that 80% of the time you choose healthy foods and the other 20% gives you the opportunity to indulge.

The morale of the story here kids is that no matter what treatment you choose to enhance your health care i.e. massage, acupuncture etc. you must balance out your treatment with a healthy diet if you expect to heal or simply would just like to feel your best.

The Acupuncture and Wellness Center is located at 930 SE Cary Parkway, Cary.  919-859-2500
